Macula Obscura or Macula in Articulo Mortis

Literally hidden spot or blemish, it is a kind of mightmare, first mentioned in the "Oneiros", the incunabula by Eliso Kartofan (Cartovanius) of Lauriacum (Noricum) believed to have been written in 390 A.D. According to the infamous alchemist, the Macula is supposed to tempt the dreamer with a peek at his own demise, thus insuring it as a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Martoff Number or Martoff Scale

The double contraction of the Martoff tensor of order four yielding a new tensor of order 0 or a scalar, a pure number. (See Tensor)

Merc or Mercolidine Sulfate

A dream lucidity drug. Possible side effects are drowsiness, loss of muscle control, blurredness of vision. The latter two could become permanent. (See Lucid Dream)

Minerva

The name given to the queriable, interactive mode of the OnNet 210 computer's operating system or Light Shell. For example, Minerva's Max runs S-T-X simulations.

Mnemonic Power

This term traditionally pertains to memory or to mind.

In this context, it refers to mindspace power. The mindspace aperture is usually measured in terabytes or cicabytes. It is the measure of a space-time "window" - either real (the noumenal universe) or perceived (the phenomenal mind).

Naja

The word means cobra. It is the name given to Leopold Hardan's mother and to his remote mountain chalet in Colorado. Naja and her young son emigrated from Paraguay in 1955. Their history before coming to the US is mostly unknown.

Navcon

The isocon's navigational panel for a dreamscan.

Navitor

The navigational panel for the locum or lead car of the panoptoscope's viewing train. The navitor (actually three monitors) uses the Lociputer LT4, LINX computer.

Netherfaults

The name the Kindmen give to the abstraction of multi-dimensional space.

Nettie

Nickname for the OnNet 210, a neural-architectured computer using both optical memory (OHM)and a mosaic of neurodendrites know as biotesserae.

Nrczxa

A Queen of the Sorel and daughter of Kust. Pseudonyms are: the Weaver, the Timeshaper, the Bete Noire, the Nyct-Mistress (night mistress), the Dark Lightkeeper, Nerscha of the Dark Light. Nrczxa was a leader and example for her race. Her leadership was the result of her intelligence, her title was the result of her fertility.

OHM

The Optical High Memory used by the neurally configured OnNet 210 computer and subcomputers.

Oneiros

Eliso Kartofan's incunabula written in 390 A.D. in Lauriacum of the province of Noricum concerning the subject of dreams, sometimes called the Black Apocryphy, due to its dark vision of the Macula. (See Macula)

OnNet 210

An optical, neural, networked computer pioneered by Dr. Lawrence Kato of UltraNet Inc. 210 stands for 2 to the 10th power or 1024 yottabytes.
